“Happy? Hah! I remember that… 7 years old… Ice cream, holidays - that was happy. Not since then, really.”
Well, now that I’ve gathered your attention, I should probably introduce myself. I’m Edmond Belliveau - a programming, computing, networking, mathematics, physics… well, I’m a just-about-anything-to-do-with-electrons junkie from Atlantic Canada. Specifically, I’m from Moncton, NB, Canada.
The reason you’re here reading this is likely because you’ve been linked off my Twitter account over at http://twitter.com/ebelliveau. If so, good. If not, well - I do like random visitors, so please - read on.
Now for the awesome and exciting part. Normally, people write in their blogs to make announcements of rather mundane and inextricably boring parts of their life. Most of the popular ones are done with such zeal and panache so as to make your average reader switch off immediately and neglect to remove the offending author from their RSS reader. So to put this succinctly, I’d like to break with that rather unfortunate trend in the next couple of (hopefully) un-boring lines.
Let me be the first to publically announce this: I’m out of work. This came as quite a shock to me the morning of Friday, June 26, 2009 from my previous employer. Unfortunately, due to some very heart-rending economic circumstances, I had to be let go. Severance papers in hand, I left the stylish and awesome office of the Inevitable Corporation for the last time (actually, I lied - I managed to forget my phone there and had to go pick it up… details, details….) and embarked on the quest of my life so-far: a quest to decide where - and more importantly - how I would spend a good portion of the rest of my career in IT.
I’ve done quite a lot of what some may call ‘soul searching’ in the past seven days. Where would I work? Seriously - the biggest question I had was not “how am I going to find a job?”, but “where am I going to find a job?”. Many lofty ideas of silicon valley floated through my head, with warehouses full of air-conditioned datacenters with fun and unique *nix machines that need tending to. Many, more unsavory, thoughts of having to move away from my friends, family, and business contacts also managed to worm their way into my already-distraught and confused mind.
Since that Friday, I’ve been frought with many uncertainties. I was now at a point in my life where I could decide if I wanted to go back to university and pursue my PhD(s) in any of physics, computer science, bioinformatics, or molecular biology. As much as I do adore the prospect of the long nights of submersing my brain in the undulating flow ofinformation, I couldn’t do it - I just couldn’t leave Moncton hanging like that. I have far too much to offer this city than a boring dissertation paper full of zeal and panache.
Moncton has a very soft spot in my mind. Many good things have happened during my stay here. Had it not been for Red Ball Internet plucking me straight out of college, many of you likely would not have had the pleasure of riding public transportation and enjoying the mobile WiFi installations. Many firsts were had here in Moncton - first job, first car, first parking ticket… the list goes on. Needless to say, I would dearly love to make Moncton my permanent home as a developer. Let me put this in context for everyone: I have been working in Moncton for not a day short of 1076 days. That’s over twenty five thousand hours invested in continually sharpening my skills, and over twenty five thousand hours’ worth of me pushing myself to give everything I have to make Moncton awesome.
So - here is my call to you, all of the development and IT shops in and around Moncton, NB: I am not only seeking employment; I am seeking opportunities manifesting themselves beyond your wildest imaginations to shape and form this city to an even more wonderful place to work and live. This is my awesome and exciting announcement: a new direction in my life and professional career.

For those wondering, I am still compiling my resume/curriculum vitae. I will post it here and in my twitter feed when I am finished. (It’s been a while since I’ve worked on it to be brutally honest, and I want it to be all pretty, shiny, and full of kittens).
If you’re in need of direct contact immediately, send me a DM on my twitter feed :)

Hey all,
In between the time spent at work and home, I’ve made the decision to start putting more of me online. Why me? No holding back here - the things I see, do, and am involved with every day are (in a word) awesome. That fact will be revealed more and more in the coming weeks, as I am going to amalgamate a lot of the aspects of me and my little part of the world into this wayward digital locker.
So to be brief, stay tuned!
